Koay Soo Kau has been involved in the Malaysian Visual Art scene for over 60 years. Although he was an active art teacher for 35 years, he never failed to be actively painting and exhibiting locally and internationally. However, in 2005, his life changed because he started Galeri Seni Mutiara to promote art and has been curating no less than 200 shows because at one stage two exhibitions were running simultaneously in a month. He has held more than 25 solo exhibitions locally and internationally. His works are collected by various individuals and institutions, including National Art Gallery, Malaysia, Penang State Art Gallery, Batik Painting Museum, Penang, The Art Gallery, Penang, Galeri Seni Lukis Modern Dai Ichi, Yunan Museum, China, H.R.H The Sultan of Kedah, Late Tun Adam Malik Collection, Indonesia, and Bank Negara Malaysia. Koay Soo Kau is now a full time artist and director of Galeri Seni Mutiara, Penang. He is an advisor to the Penang Teachers Art Circle and the internet art platform “IMPSART”.
