Full time Kedahan artist Ramli Harun was born in 1955 and studied at the Malaysia Handicraft Development Art Corporation in Kelantan from 1984 to 1986. Since then, Ramli is actively engaged in numerous exhibitions across Malaysia and Thailand.
Ramli’s niche is Batik paintings, but workpieces of his abstract oil paintings are also prominent in the local art scene. He is currently a member of Kedah Artists Association (Angkatan Pelukis Kedah) and Balai Seni Negeri Kedah.
Centred on themes of nature, his style can be described as distinctive and expressive, making them highly sought-after by private collectors like the Raja Muda Sultan of Kedah and Sultan of Negeri Johor (Engku Rompin), as well as governmental institutions such as the Kedah Art Gallery, Holiday lnn Pedu Lake Resort (Kedah), Sila Bunyarat Art Center (Thailand), Le Marious Sword Site Coordinator (California) and Daiichi Modern Art Gallery Sungai Petani (Kedah).
In an interview with Berita Sinar, Ramli expressed how grateful he is to have had the privilege to be under the tutelage of the late Dato’ Ibrahim Hussein, painter of the famed Mother and Child (1964), which till today, serves as an inspiration for his masterpieces. Ramli also said that he wishes to continue his craft in abstract nature painting to publicise the admiration of art among the local community and cultivate an appreciation for the beauty of nature along the way.
